Yves Lachapelle, Ph.D., is a former special educator for persons
with intellectual disabilities and a researcher. He now holds a
tenured professor’s position at the Psychoéducation
Department of the Université du Québec à Trois-Rivières.
Yves has a B.A in Psychology, an M.A. in Education Sciences and
a Ph.D. in Educational Psychology. He just ended his term as the
Canadian member-at-large serving on the National Board of Directors,
is the director of the Quebec Chapter of AAMR, and the liaison between
the International Activities Committee and the National Board. Yves
worked on the French translation of the 2002 Definition and the
organization of a training seminar held in Montréal. He cofounded
and is the director of a research lab on intellectual disabilities
at his department. Yves also serves as a board member of the National
Consortium on Social Inclusion and as well as a rehabilitation centre
in Quebec. In collaboration with colleagues from U.S.A., Belgium,
France, Spain and Ireland, he has worked on the creation and Chairs
an International research group on Self-Determination and Quality
of Life (http://www.uqtr.ca/GIRAQ). He recently cosigned two chapters
(Self-Determination and Quality of Life) on a French Handbook on
Intellectual Disabilities.
